OCD and Me: Nicola’s Story

OCD has been a part of my life since I was a child. I didn’t know what it was when I was young so referred to it as my “thing” and I remember feeling ashamed of it. I’m now 44 and when I was a child people didn’t know as much about mental health as they do now and it was harder to talk about. I’m so glad that things have changed as talking about your mental health and seeking help is such an important part of getting better.

OCD for me has always been linked to magic numbers and thinking….that feeling that if you do things a certain amount of times or until things feel “just right”, everything will somehow be OK.

I’ve learnt over the years that the only way to shrink OCD is to face it head on and challenge it.

I recorded a podcast episode about OCD for my podcast Outspoken Beauty and thought it might be helpful to share it here. I really hope it helps.

OCD doesn’t have to take over your life. You CAN shrink. It takes courage and resilience but it is possible. Oh and by the way if you’re reading this and you have OCD you are strong and brave because you are facing something hard every day and that makes you truly amazing xx
